German Architecture Studio GMP Architects has completed construction of a sports center Universiade Sports Center in Shenzhen in Shenzhen (China). The complex consists of three main crystalline elements – two swimming pools and stadiums. Conceptual “island” surrounded by landscape structure, where the sponsors pitched green park with a typical traditional Chinese garden.
Water and vegetation around the sport of “islands” represent the movement and development, while the crystalline form of objects, causing the association with rocks and stones, is the continuity and stability.
This visual dialogue between the fluid and organic forms of landscape architecture and expressive elements of the complex is the conceptual basis of design of the new center.
The crystalline form of the three sports units emphasized particularly impressive in the evening and at night, when translucent facades transformed the ultra-modern system of artificial lighting and are reflected in the mirrored surface of the water.
The interiors of the pool and the stadium is not less futuristic than the exteriors. Thanks to the transparent facade, in the daytime there is sufficient natural light and at dusk in a dialogue with the situation and visitors entering the impressive complex illumination.
