Even the subway stations sometimes become “ghost”. For example, in New York more than a dozen stations are abandoned. And there is also an abandoned train station Williamsburg Bridge Railway terminal, also located underground. That’s it and plan to create an underground park Delancey Underground or Low Line.
Station Williamsburg Bridge Railway terminal opened in 1908 as a transport point, connecting railway and subway. It had eight underground platforms and was in the area of New York Lower East Side in the southeastern part of Manhattan. In 1948 terminal was closed due with closing of the railway. And, read in New York City in a huge underground space no one needs that dilapidated and heat a little.
But now an architectural studio RAAD has developed a project to make this old station into a new underground park. The area of the seating area residents will be 2 hectares, that much more than the average garden or park in Manhattan.
It will be divided alleys with benches for walks and places for recreational activities, there will be fountains, green grass, shrubs and even trees, tending upwards, towards the sun.
Moreover, the lighting in the park Delancey Underground (naming his second Low Line is given as an analogue of above-ground park at the old High Line railroad at all the same Manhattan) will be natural. The company has developed RAAD system by which the natural sunlight will fall into the underground rooms through high-tech fiber optic lighting systems. Moreover, this light will be spared from ultraviolet and infrared radiation.
Company MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority), in which balance is now disused station Williamsburg Bridge Railway terminal, agreed to transmit it to the creators for free use. But under the condition that they will find funding for this project themselves.
