The main objective of the project Islamic Cultural Center San Francisco is to create a multi-purpose complex for the believers and visitors interested in Islamic culture of the Ottoman Empire – the most powerful Islamic state all the time, until the present day. Author of ambitious project – a young architect , Yusuf Onder.
Large-scale building, which is primarily of interest as works of art of contemporary architecture will serve as a democratic center for cultural and social life. The structure includes a library, museum, lecture halls, workshops, open green spaces and a cafe.
The second most important goal is to create a unique hybrid of culture and religion – a place where people can communicate and learn the history of Islam and the Ottoman Empire. Such a “fresh approach” is to expand people’s attitude to religion, which must continually evolve, focusing on the dynamics of modernity. It is about the integration of religion, history, culture and public life. The future center will become a new landmark, interesting for residents and tourists visiting San Francisco. In addition, the new facility will be built near the Church of St. Patrick and the Museum of Jewish Culture Contemporary Jewish Museum. Authors of the project hope that by closing the triangle of three major religions, the new building will become a beacon for their unity.
