Japanese architectural studio koji kakiuchi completed the renovation of dilapidated buildings of a century in Kyoto (Japan). Unusual house in the repair of which have been actively involved it’s owners, and received an appropriate name – Do IT yourself (“DIY”).
According to the authors of the draft update, the customer had absolutely no experience in construction and, especially, the reconstruction of buildings, because of it the process of alteration became for him a unique and exciting experience.
A small house with a built-up area 59 square meters is located in a narrow space between two adjacent buildings. Prior to the construction of the reconstruction is clearly lacking architectural integrity and unique aesthetic. To start the architects have strengthened the existing structure by inserting a rectangular frame and removed the ceiling of the first floor. Then where carried out works to organize the process of ventilation and artificial lighting.
As a result of further work, the first floor was given over to the living room and kitchen, placed in the center of home. Also, there was organized a little green garden – a traditional element of Japanese homes. At the second level bedroom fit and recreation area.
Bathrooms are located on the first and second floors. A ceiling was decorated with the upper level of the fine drapery of white cloth, effectively contrasting with dark wood beams and old unaffected finish textured walls, and its complete absence in some places.
Exterior has also undergone some changes. Unremarkable steel mesh fence, was replaced with bamboo, complete with impressive stones, replacing the faceless asphalt.
The result of reconstruction is a combination of past and present, old and new. But the old items left over from a previous home, got a completely different, colorful sound, free from dust and flying ancient decrepitude of its former environment. Genuine original interior does not impress a modern forgery or an exquisite antique-style – all this is history and tradition, but does not interfere with the comfort and enjoy the achievements of civilization.
