Rapperswil-Jona Municipal Museum – the building of the city museum, which became the first joint project of the cities of Rapperswil and Jona in Switzerland. The unique structure is designed to symbolically declare their friendly merger.
Renewal Project, developed by experts from the architectural studio mlzd Architects takes the quality of the premises of the museum in socially significant symbolic space.
The new ultra-modern building harmoniously and creatively integrated into the architecture of the historic old town. In this view from the northern part of the museum has remained unchanged, which was one of the important conditions for reconstruction.
The historical context is the perfect backdrop for the conceptual element inserted between the two architects of textured buildings, located in the heart of the city. Bronze perforated facades of the new exhibition space underline color of his entourage.
The shape of the new building was designed with the side facades of old buildings. The facade and roof are made of the modern inclusion in such a way that the existing doors and windows of old buildings are not covered anywhere else.
This interaction is calling visitors and passers-by on a fascinating journey through time, visual-functional elements of which don’t cause domestic and apparent contradictions, but rather complement and emphasize the advantages of each other. The bright background of the new interiors of the museum is an ideal “clean sheet” for permanent and temporary exhibitions.
