Kinetic Double-Sided Bench – «live» bench from young New York designers
0Ten architecture students at Columbia University GSAPP (New York, USA) recently completed work on a unique functional art object called Double-Sided Kinetic Bench. Wavy form bilateral bench, made ??of plywood, is activated by interaction with its temporary inhabitants.
The unusual structure consists of a 119-TI system of interconnected elements and rods, which are hidden inside the interactive shell.
The starting point for the activation of motion of the fragments is a weight bench interacting with man. Ergonomic shape profiles of elements for easy configuration of the body, which are fixed, but certain effects can be changed again. Safety while driving is provided by special internal elastic band, as well as clutch located on the central rod and prevent lateral movement.
Design of Kinetic Double-Sided Bench is environmentally sustainable, as the amount allocated to the manufacturing facility was only $ 1,000. “Pattern” of the object was broken into small linear pieces that fit on 18 sheets of plywood, so as to achieve 90% efficiency of use of the material.
Depending on the allocated resources, the size of the installation may vary from the smallest, to a larger home – is relevant to public recreation areas.
The original design idea, innovative digital technology and the environmental sustainability of the object assign it a significant role in the development of modern industrial design practice. Young authors emphasize that this concept can serve as a catalyst for new inventions and unique objects.
