Danish architectural studio Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has developed a project to participate in the contest for the best suggestion of the Memorial of freedom and unity of Germany - German Freedom and Unity Memorial. The minimalist design created by architects, is not only a conceptual symbolic gesture, but also has a utilitarian function.
Memorial will be located in Berlin, on Museum Island, established in honor of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, followed by the reunification of East and West Germany. The peace process of association to end the long Cold War period, was particularly noticeable in Berlin, where neighborhoods were divided families and generations of local residents.
The offer from BIG is a circle, which will be simultaneously bridge and sculpture, symbolizing not only the nation’s reunification, but also personal experience of individuals.
Circle is a traditional symbol of integrity and strength, and his appointment represents a functional integration and allows the public to use freely and sculpture more useful than just admire the conceptual work of modern art.
The work of authors of the project can be found on the official website of the studio with offices in Copenhagen (Denmark) and New York (USA): http://www.big.dk/
