The architectural studio, Mimar Emirates, won the contest for the best project proposal for the building of the new engineering college in Qatar, Doha. This was one of the main flagships of the local Qatar University. The Green project is aimed at protecting the environment of the Arabian Gulf and effectively planning the urban infrastructure.
The projects that participated in the contest presented different options for the 7 departments of the institution that has an area of 60,000 sq meters. The students who will attend the school will be taught different professions such as civil architecture, electrical, chemical, and mechanical and computer systems.
The preliminary concept of the building was to create spatial relationships between the academic buildings and the campus that was defined as the spine thus creating the main axis of the structure.
The embossed green roofs that were integrated into a complex help to favorably and effectively balance the heat in the college premises. The landscape design complements the architectural design of the structure thus providing a continuous connection between the landscape and the new formation . Such respect for the beauty of the natural appearance of the natural landscape and environmental concerns of the environment will contribute to a favorable microclimate inside and outside the college.
