The authorities of the capital and largest city of Thailand is still considered flood as extreme situation, not a permanent state of the region. Such a “positive” thinking leads to aggravation of the economic crisis as a consequence of the damage that has survived Bangkok in recent years, due to significant changes in sea level.
According to UN projections, by 2050, metropolis can become a swamp. These distressing facts are compounded by the rapid pollution of water bodies surrounding the city, suffering from farm waste disposal for production of shrimp.
According to experts from the Thai architectural studio S + PBA, today, save the situation can only develop emergent architecture. The pilot of the representative of progressive urban development project is Wetropolis - self-sustaining floating complex, which will stimulate the vital functions of the tides.
Flooding architecture includes system of interconnected buildings, sidewalks and roads. The new city will include all the traditional functions and programs, including schools, cultural, social and commercial establishments, hospitals, industrial buildings.
Wetropolis provides its own existence and vegetation – mangroves, which can flush toxins from the polluted waters of Bangkok, filter water, provide a favorable microclimate and natural cooling. To meet the needs of citizens and, in particular, for shrimp culture, will be used filtered water in a natural way.
