It seems that the most inconvenient material for a 34-storeyed skyscraper is wood. But architects of C.F . M?ller company think the opposite. They designed the first wood skyscraper in the world, which is called Big Wood.
It has been recently announced that C.F. M?ller won competition with their project of a new headquarters for Swedish company HSB, specializing in residential construction and property management. This building, named Big Wood, will be the most unusual one in Stockholm.
Just think about it, a 34-storeyed skyscraper will be built mostly of wood! However, the core of Big Wood will be constructed from reinforced concrete, where staircases and elevators will be placed. But the residential and office part of the building will be made of wood.
Supporting pillars and inter floor slabs will be constructed of solid woods; interior walls will be made of softer kinds of wood.
C.F. M?ller also says that the power supply will be mostly received from solar panels, installed on different floors of the building. They also mention the high efficiency of this power and multi level system of water treatment.
