German engineers took up a strange and seemingly impossible task. They decided to combine two very dissimilar to each other form of public transport – bus and tram. And despite originality of problem, they coped with it. Meet the world’s first hybrid of bus and tram – AutoTram!
Some time ago we told you about OLEV – tram without horns, which is powered by electricity from a magnetic strip embedded in the road surface. Today we will tell you about how the tram can get rid of the horns, railings and attachment to certain routes. These streetcars named AutoTram appeared recently in Germany!
AutoTram more like, perhaps, not a tram and a bus. At least, not outwardly (outside – just a tram), but of action. However, on the bus with no internal combustion engine and an electric bus, riding on a charge very high capacity batteries. Here are just a AutoTram batteries are not that receptive. To their full capacity of this unusual vehicle can travel only about two miles. This, of course, very little for public transport.
But I must say, this is not a minus, and plus a bus-tram AutoTram! After all, the small battery capacity means little time to recharge! And, in order to replenish the energy stored in batteries AutoTram, not necessarily to call in for special charging stations. Don’t even have to break the timetable of the bus. Charge AutoTram will occur on each bus stop, where it will stop!
After all, having a 700-volt power supply or batteries are very small capacity, as well as thirty-seconds at each stop, you can go for hours without worrying about the very fullness of batteries AutoTram – everything goes on without interruption and faults.
