Archway Studios – unique reconstruction of an old industrial building, located next to the arch railway viaduct in south London. Inside the rusty steel tank was organized space for life and work of photographer.
Project authors – experts from the British architectural studio Undercurrent Architects. Brick viaduct is a typical architecture of the nineteenth century. Archway Studios project was an example of how to effectively use the end-of-term technical rail facilities.
The most difficult task was to provide a home studio space natural daylight, protecting the inhabitants of the neighborhood with minuses railway – noise and vibration. Cladding steel creates a solid shell for the building, the light that penetrates the windows facing the inside of the object, as well as through a narrow vertical opening in its body and a window in the roof.
Multi-layer frame of the building provides a high capacity for noise protection, as architects have realized important solutions that reduce vibration.
The building has three floors, where to place the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room. Work space was organized under the very vault ceiling construction.
Unique appearance of this structure helps to stand out, eclipsing their urban neighbors. As one of the 10,000 technical elements of viaduct, which cut through the neighborhood of London, this model can be adapted to a wide end-use of vacant spaces for the benefit of society as a dwelling or place of public importance.
